Naming your cat

'The naming of cats is a difficult matter,

It isn't just one of your holiday games;

You may think at first I'm as mad as a hatter

When I tell you, a cat must have three different names.'

T.S. Eliot

Just like people, cats recognise their own name. With practise, they can quickly respond to your calls when you use their name. It sounds such an obvious thing, but the sooner your cat is christened, the quicker it will develop a bond to that name. Cats, being fussy, may need more than one name, which each names applying to different commands. For example, your cat may be called Gabriel, and when he is being a good cat, you can say to him Good boy, Mr Gabriel', and when he's being a naughty cat, you can shout, 'Gabby!'. In this way, he associates the tone and type of sounds with whether he's in the good books or bad ones.
